In Leeds, there’s Mook, which manages to strike the balance between purse-friendly yet sophisticated drinking; The Alchemist, which serves jaw-droppingly creative drinks in an ultra-cool venue; Skybar, offering great views of the city with fresh and expertly made twists on classics, and then there’s Angelica at the top of Trinity. Its large range of beautifully presented beverages is served with a side order of unbeatable scenery, and as close to the VIP treatment as the average aspirational pleb can get.

If Alchemist is the Kim Kardashian or Miley Cyrus of the cocktail world, with its ‘Me! Me! Me!’ concoctions and massive following, then Angelica is the Charlize Theron or Eva Green. Smarter, more sophisticated and stunning when the sun is setting, Angelica has a decadent, exclusive feel that befits its higher-than-average bar prices (we’re talking by Leeds standards; Londoners accustomed to shelling out £20 a pop will feel like they’ve scored a bargain).

The highest venue in the sleek Trinity shopping centre, the bar enjoys panoramic views from its outdoor wraparound terrace, and visitors are prepped for a starry service with lift entry and a greeting at the door. For all its posh features, Angelica is surprisingly welcoming, and the efficient bartenders know their stuff, investing time in making mixed drinks with a selection of quality spirits and liqueurs.
