At Peel Road, one of the oldest food streets aka wai sek kai in the city, don’t miss the decades-old Chinese-style nasi lemak shop, best known for such hits as wild boar curry, pork rendang, ayam masak merah, mutton curry, and sambal kerang.
Michelle Au Yong, who is of Peranakan descent, and her husband, Alvin Pang have sold nasi lemak here for thirty years, taking over from Alvin’s mother who first set up the street stall. After nearly five decades of steady work, Nasi Lemak Peel Road has upgraded to a small shoplot with air-conditioned dine-in seating. Final note: The sambal here is more sweet than spicy, perfect if you can’t take the heat.
