Some places like to keep it classic: full-cream milk in your coffee, spaghetti with tomato sauce, starchy white tablecloths. That’s what you’ll get at Opus Bistro, a beloved, cosy Italian institution on Jalan Bangkung where not much has changed since it opened in ’02, and frankly, not much needs to.
For food, there’s a straightforward menu of antipasti, soups, pastas, a clutch of mains, and dolci. Go for the signatures: beef carpaccio is brightened with foie gras and a light rocket salad, while the spaghetti a la Opus studded with fresh seafood is as unpretentious as the last time you visited. Another time-honored special is the grilled lamb cutlets that come with sautéed vegetables, roasted potatoes and a mint or rosemary sauce. It’s all accompanied by a crowd-pleasing mix of mostly-Italian wines.
