Good luck finding this intriguing café on the quiet streets of Jalan Kemuja. Located on the same row as Fierce Curry House and walking distance from Menara UOA in Bangsar, DR.Inc is an inspiration space co-habited by L.Inc design, architecture firm Studio Bikin, and of course, the café itself.
Owner Jeremy Chin was also involved in Bangsar's PCLO café, but his latest venture is far more distinctive, being a combined effort between him and creative designer Lisette Scheers of L. Inc (‘Drink’ + ‘Inc’, get it?). What stands out the most about DR.Inc is the elements of gorgeous design, from the artwork on the glass entrance (that changes every month or so), handpicked items from Nala Designs meticulously displayed on the shelves, to the stylish furniture from Studio Bikin that’s all for sale.
At DR.Inc, the coffee menu is devised by barista Neil Liew. Including specialities such as Che Guevara (espresso over ice served with a slice of lemon and brown sugar) and Fat Americano (espresso with Coke), a highlight on the menu is the Presso Bomb (RM14). Featuring a shot of espresso in Malacca-sourced ice cream soda, coffee purists might be outraged by this combination but that is precisely what makes DR.Inc unique at a time when its peers are specialising in siphon brews and copper pour-overs. For now, the sparse menu consists only of coffee and cakes sourced from home bakers, but we're told that there will be healthier options (think quinoa salad) added in future.
There’s a small courtyard outside which visitors can use if the weather permits, but on the whole, the seating at DR.Inc is limited. However, you can look forward to late February, when the café's second floor will be opened to fit more tables as well as serve as a space to conduct workshops in silk-screening, calligraphy, flower arrangement and more.
