We like a restaurant that calls it like it is, and at BBQ Thai, you’re going to eat Thai-style barbecue — but this spot along foodie haunt Old Klang Road does a lot more than barbecued chicken wings, pork neck, and salt-baked tilapia (although, to be clear, those are all solid). Also order the baby octopus, paired perfectly with a fiery chili dip; tom yum, brimming with prawns, squid, and other seafood and veges; and the Thai omelette with oysters.
If notable: the space is colourful and kitschy, decked out with discarded door frames and tuk-tuks. There’s a heart-shaped structure illuminated with recycled plastic containers; violins hang on the wall of a private dining room; and oh yes, the private dining rooms are colour-themed. BBQ Thai is a lot of things, but it’s certainly not plain. Go for family gatherings or group hangs.
