The setup at Zender’s is shocking at first glance; jarring silver cushioned chairs with thick white rims and studded stones catch the eye first. These (loud) chairs look up to dramatic chandeliers, a bar embellished with crystal drops and what look like statues of winged Greek goddesses. We can’t decide if it’s nice in a wedding way or plain campy. Helmed by one Chef Eric, the food sees ingredients like foie gras and escargot combine with Mediterranean and sometimes Asian flavours. For instance, the chicken tenderloin is served with soft shell crab while the pan seared cod fillet with hoisin sauce. It can hardly be said about a Publika restaurant but Zender’s sports a good view of the misty protruding towers of KL with Istana Negara in the foreground.
