Jalan Raja Alang is a vibrant scattering of Minang restaurants, and our favourite is this nasi padang joint. Comparatively younger than some of Kampung Baru’s decades-old stalls, restaurant is relied on by streams of Minang workers from nearby residences. We have a soft spot for the gulai cincang daging with rebung (young bamboo shoot), a suitably spicy accompaniment to the dry, crispy daging dendeng garnished with slivers of pickled red onion. Make sure to also order the nasi padang staple – ayam pop, bony parboiled kampung chicken that is deep fried on order.
