This unassuming café is hidden behind the Twenty2 boutique on Lorong Maarof. Despite being an alfresco space, it is surprisingly shady, with long tables at nooks and corners that could cater to large groups. For now, Grind22 serves coffee and largely cakes. Coffee is a fruity medium roast of their own house blend of Ethiopia, Kenya and Mandheling, while cakes are sourced from homebakers. Soon, the café will be offering bento sets for patrons who want a more substantial bite. There are also board and card games to help occupy your time.
The barista Firdaus Hamdin’s nine-year experience can be traced back to Artisan Roast, and he has worked in cafés and coffee roasters in Singapore, London and Milan. On a hot day, ask for his signature Nona Iced Latte, where gula Melaka is layered with milk and espresso and then topped with ice, or his homemade Limoni, a special, refreshing lemonade whose recipe he picked up during his stint in Milan.
