Tucked away in the corner of lifestyle boutique store Merchant & Sisters is The Burrow, a barbershop co-owned by Subang-based OTHRS Barbers and resident barber Al Siew, a former law graduate who traded textbooks for clippers after apprenticing with OTHRS Barbers. Unlike other modern barbershops of its kind, The Burrow is hidden away from public view; it’s only accessible via Merchant & Sisters, making it an ideal place to get some peace and quiet while you get an hour-long haircut. Because of its secluded location, Al gets a surprising amount of female clients – about 30 percent by his reckoning – who, he says, feel more welcome here because of the less masculine environment that most barbershops are associated with.
What sets The Burrow apart from OTHRS Barbers is the availability of hair wash and scalp therapy services which come with the regular haircut (RM60). The scalp therapy uses a combination of conditioners and scalp massages to encourage blood circulation, as well as to prevent itchiness and dandruff. Haircuts start from RM40 for The Academy Cut (which excludes the hair wash and scalp therapy) and go up to RM95 for The Complete Cut, which includes a haircut and hot-towel shave.
