It’s also a great option for a date, girls’ night out or to forget about the unpleasant week you just had. Here’s where you can expect shows where you can actually LOL.

The Joke Factory
The Joke Factory

Opened by one of Malaysia’s most famous comics, Harith Iskandar, The Joke Factory is one of the latest spots in town to get your fill of stand-up comedy. Their schedule is packed with shows featuring local and international comedians, plus they hold workshops and amateur nights for newbies to practise stand-up skills. Past editions have seen improv sessions, themed nights, free shows and activities even for children to get their comic quota up.

This dedicated comedy club hosts some of the best local and international acts on the comic circuit with names like Douglas Lim, Joanne Kam, Paul Ogata and Dana Alexander, among others, having graced its stage. Founded in 2014 by Rizal van Geyzel and Shankar Santhiram, the team behind Crackhouse Comedy Club focuses not only on bringing in international comedic talent but to also discover and hone new comedians and offer audiences hilarious open-mic nights where everything from the no smoking ban to typical Malaysian life is joked about.

This multi-purpose venue has seen many a comic pass through its doors. The space is casual yet intimate, which makes it ideal for stand-up comedy shows and allows the audience to really get into the mood of things. Past comedy events have included Story Party Malaysia and shows by renowned comics like Joanne Kam, Ahmed Ahmed, Captain Khalid and Kavin Jay. It’s also known for its great repertoire of children’s theatre, which in themselves are pretty funny!

Known for being one of the city’s best jazz clubs, No Black Tie has hosted some amazing musical talents and is the place to head to for amazing live performances. But what you may not know is that they also host some great comedy nights featuring talented local comics Andrew Netto, Daniel Fernandes, Papi Zak and the occasional roaming international comic.
