School's out (alas, only until March 20) and the kids are full of beans and raring to go out before settling back at their school desks on Monday. We've sorted out what to do and where to go to make the most of the March school holidays.
Get into a gold miner's shoes, figure skate and be a LEGO knight
If your kid still doesn't know what to be when he or she grows up, have them put on gold miner gear at the Discovery Channel's Discovery Explorers educational roadshow in Sunway Pyramid and experience their own gold rush. For active kids, get their skates on at the synthetic ice rink in Avenue K and after that, reward their skating efforts with LEGO's new NEXO Knight toys at Mid Valley Megamall.
Earn your eco-friendly badge
Take part in the Earth Hour celebration at The School by Jaya One with plenty of fun educational workshops, exhibitions and even a camp. Stay around until 8.30pm when lights are switched off for an hour – there'll be a picnic in the dark!
Watch a play
If your young child has yet to see a theatre production, 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark' is a good one to introduce them to. Based on Jill Tomlinson’s classic children’s book of the same title, little owl Plop goes on a journey to overcome his peculiar fear of the nighttime. Alternatively, learn all about the Easter Bunny with 'Wayang for Kids: Bunnies and Chocolates' at Theatre Lounge Café.
Create your own magic beads and listen to stories
The kids might not like trotting after you while you shop, so let them create DIY magic beads, paint on canvas and play with sand art at IOI City Mall’s kid-friendly ‘do. The more literary ones might like the storytelling sessions, and hands-on kids will enjoy rolling clay and whizzing Hot Wheels on a track.
Throw snowballs and see massive balloons
The trip to Genting will be worth it once you see the huge balloon structures and all that snow for your kids to build a snowman with at the Genting International Children's Festival. Fans of Old Master Q will also rejoice at seeing the beloved comical Chinese character on stage.
