If wine shops were designed by librarians it would look like Wine Kaki’s outlet in Taman Danau Desa. Opened in September 2016 by wine enthusiast and retailer Jay Tan, Wine Kaki was first conceptualised to be the happy medium between a wine retail shop and neighbourhood bar – the kind of place where drinkers can come in shorts, crack open a bottle and chat around communal tables. The shelves are lined with hundreds of wine bottles, all neatly arranged by Jay or resident wine expert Kelvin Lai according to region and type. Furthermore, a majority of the labels here aren’t typically found in bigger retail shops, making this a great place to seek out small-batch wine labels. Jay reckons his rates are a little higher than retail – about 50 to 60 percent of the bottles are priced between RM100 and RM200 – but there’s also a 20 percent discount for take-away purchases.
