Founded in 1969, the Atatürk Cultural Centre (AKM) in Taksim Square is perhaps the most prominent performing arts venue in the city. After years of extensive renovations, the building reopened its doors to the public back in 2021. The new and improved AKM boasts a range of splendid amenities, including three magnificent halls for the staging of opera, ballet, theatre, concerts and other events. The main feature and crown jewel of the AKM is the stunning, 2040 seater Türk Telekom Opera hall that lies beneath a globe-shaped structure with a dazzling exterior coated in 15,000 glossy red ceramic tiles.
