Tere, offering a modern interpretation of traditional Turkish grill culture against the mesmerizing view of the Bosphorus, has made a bold debut on Istanbul's gastronomic scene. Located in the iconic building that once housed Topaz restaurant, Tere takes its name and inspiration from "tere" (garden cress), a staple on dining tables.
The restaurant is a project by Desert Group, which also operates Okra and Upperist at The Marmara Taksim, and brings together two master chefs, brothers Ömer and Remzi Sayın. With years of culinary expertise, this duo combines classic grill flavors with signature Tere dishes, offering food enthusiasts a diverse array of choices. The menu highlights grill classics such as scallops, küşleme (lamb fillet), and Adana kebab, alongside an enticing selection of hot and cold starters and salads. From the oven, lahmacun (Turkish flatbread with minced meat) and pide topped with crispy kokoreç (seasoned lamb intestines) are standout items. The Tere Salad is poised to become a table essential. With a focus on vegan options, the menu also features innovative dishes like vegan kebab. For dessert lovers, unique offerings like beet dessert and Aydın pumpkin dessert add a sweet finish.
Designed by Erginoğlu & Çalışlar Architecture, the building—originally designed by Emin Onat and boasting one of Istanbul's finest panoramic views—has been reinterpreted with a modern touch while preserving its historical heritage. Green leather chairs, white tablecloths, a 10-meter copper grill, natural stone details, and coffee-bronze-toned mosaics dominate the sophisticated interior design.
With a capacity of 200, Tere promises elegance, comfort, and a menu filled with flavorful delights, making it one of Istanbul’s most promising new restaurants. For those seeking an unforgettable grill experience in the city, Tere is open every day from 4:00 PM to midnight.
