Bröd is a new bakery in Nişantaşı opened by Erman Girgin, who received his training at the Culinary Arts Academy (MSA) in Istanbul and The Bertinet Kitchen in the U.K. Here, Girgin serves better-for-you sourdough breads and sandwiches like the grilled chicken, hummus and red onion sandwich. It’s normally served on ciabatta bread, but we recommend opting for the sourdough slices with a soft center and a chewy crust. You can also try the toast with creamy Erzincan tulum cheese, grilled peppers and basil oil between two slices of sourdough bread for a filling lunch. Dessert options like oatmeal-cranberry cookies and chocolate tart are proof positive of
Girgin’s prowess in
pastries. There might be those who find it absurd to pay anywhere from 8.5 to 15 TL for a loaf of bread, but these flavorful, fresh and healthy breads might change your eating habits for the better (speaking from experience, it’s possible to fill up on a meal of tomatoes, cheese and half a loaf of Bröd bread in a four-person household). One last tip we have to offer to keep your bread fresh for longer is to opt for whole, unsliced loaves if you’re not going to consume all of it within a day or two.
