Wolfert Brederode, Matangi Quartet, and Joost Lijbaart's 2022 release, Ruins and Remains, received widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences alike. This Edison Award-winning album is considered one of the most remarkable works produced in the Netherlands in recent years. Originally composed in 2018 by Wolfert Brederode for piano, string quartet, and percussion, the suite was created to commemorate the centennial of the end of World War I. Over time, however, it has taken on broader and more personal meanings, encompassing a wide array of associations. Composer and pianist Brederode describes the piece as being about mourning, loss, and learning to rise again. Brederode, Lijbaart, and the adventurous Matangi Quartet, one of the Netherlands' most daring string ensembles, will perform this extraordinary work at Borusan Music House.
