Rumeli Feneri is both the name of a village on the edge of where the Bosphorus and Black Sea meet as well as the historic lighthouse that gives it its name, built in 1856 and still used today. Nearby is a 17th century fortress, the walls of which visitors can traverse. The quaint, picturesque setting makes it difficult to believe that one is still technically in Istanbul. A nice option for a brief weekend excursion.
