In 1926, the Gazi Education Institute in Ankara was established to bring up teachers with a pedagogical approach that favoured ‘learning by doing’ and an original curriculum that emphasized a strong arts education. The ‘Idealist School, Productive Studio’ exhibition at Salt Galata focuses on the work produced by the school’s pupils, whose output expressed the fundamental principles espoused by the Institute. Displaying works created between 1932 and the closure of the Institute’s boarding school in 1973, the exhibition provides a unique look into the Institute’s Arts- Crafts Department through archival visual records, textbooks of pedagogy and artworks from a number of its graduates and teachers.
