The votes are conclusive: Israelis love Asian food. According to the annual Israeli Food Awards, four out of the top 10 restaurants in Israel have their roots in Asian cuisine, two of which have made it into the ranks of the top five. With no surprise to anyone, the other six restaurants are all conceptually Mediterranean, built upon local ingredients and fresh fish, which leaves us wondering... what happened to the hummus?

These days, when Thai restaurants pop up in every corner, and every kid knows about green papaya salad, it's a little hard to remember the days before the Thai House existed. The beloved restaurant on the corner of Ben Yehuda and Bograshov was here even before we got addicted to Thai food, and truthy Thai-food mania is here mostly because of it.

The couple Yariv and Lek Malili, who introduced us to authentic Thai cuisine more than twenty years ago, continues to operate the restaurant at the highest level. With uncompromising devotion to local ingredients -some of which are specially grown for the restaurant- the Malilis adhere to traditional Thai preparation processes without shortcuts, while still showing a constant desire to continue to improve their dishes and service.

The Thai street food restaurant (with two branches in the heart of Tel Aviv and another delivery branch) is somewhat reminiscent of Bangkok with its bustle and color with a menu that includes the finest classic Thai dishes. When Eyal Langlieb and Aviel Oslander opened the first Nam on Dizengoff in 2014, they did not dream of opening two more just to ease off the load. This is what happens when owners take their business seriously by growing a large portion of the unique Thai herbs and vegetables themselves in order to maintain authenticity and quality.
