Chef Uri Levy has worked in top Tel Aviv restaurants like Shila and Herbert Samuel, and at the two Michelin-starred restaurant L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Paris. Now he is collaborating with the great minds behind Beit HaPsanter, Jimmy Who and Taylor Made, to open Raisa, a restaurant-bar in Jaffa’s flea market where you’ll want to spend the whole summer. The new 150-seat restaurant is a place where you can try a few dishes and still keep a NIS 100 per person minimum, making informality an advantage of accessibility for a wider audience – fine dining that is simple, and affordable. Levy took the big dishes out of the menu, and only created medium and small ones. Mainstays include an unexpected pizza toppled with fresh creme, sardines and beets; an all-star seafood stew; and lahmajoun, a Turkish sweet dough staple filled with tomato, lamb, pine nuts and pistachios drizzled with raw tahini. A range of cocktails and spirits are available alongside local wines and stellar options from New Zealand, Spain and Greece (from NIS 100 per bottle)– all rounding out the delicious offering.
