5. The charming bungalow in Downtown

This delightful 1930s bungalow is split into two self-contained private apartments (one permanently rented out and the other for Airbnbers). It’s had a thoroughly modern makeover, transforming it into a piece of urban cottage-core (bungalow-core?) that is both practical and pretty. True to its bungalow form, this is a home that’s made great by its nooks and crannies. The kitchen table, for example, is hidden in a window enclave with two lovely wooden benches on either side. We’re also big fans of the bold, jungle-print wallpaper in the bathroom. Really, it’s the little details that make this place.

Rooms? One. Sleeps four guests.
Mood?
As sweet as a slice of cherry pie.
Location perks?
Downtown is right on your doorstep.
Budget range?
A steal!

6. The Downtown beauty with skyline views

A Downtown dream home with sophistication to spare, we love how this place goes in big when it comes to style, but also delivers on feeling like a cosy place to relax in post-sightseeing. Its best features include the effortlessly elegant black-and-white kitchen with its bold use of block color, and the well-lit dining area with burgundy chairs. Our preference would be bedroom one, with the panelled feature wall, but if we’re forced to compromise the minimalistic four-poster in bedroom three isn’t too shabby either…

Rooms? Four. Sleeps ten guests.
Mood?
An urban paradise.
Location perks?
Just minutes from Downtown, it’s all on your doorstep.
Budget range?
A great price for a large group.

10. The four-storey townhouse on Washington Ave

Yes, the interiors are warm, welcoming and beautifully designed. But have you glanced outside yet? And, to re-energise you in the morning, start the day off right with an outdoor yoga or mini gym session. There’s also (if you feel Like a Prayer calling…) a karaoke machine. Although we imagine the neighbors might appreciate it if you keep that as an strictly indoor mode of entertainment.

11. The poolside loft in Greater Third Ward

This loft-like space is inside a “tiny home” – but it feels like anything but. Thanks to the high peaked roof, floor-to-ceiling windows and a clever use of minimalistic design, this place gives the impression of being twice the size it actually is. The interior is painted in, say, five (not fifty) shades of gray (chrome, charcoal and granite among them), and there’s a fantastic, vertiginous bird’s-eye-view of the swimming pool. Very cool.

A bachelor pad in a barn (but better than that sounds)
