2021 was another year dominated by the pandemic, but there were many other stories that captured the attention of our readers and impacted us in many different ways. So, before we say goodbye to 2021 and embark on a brand new year, let’s take a look back at a few of the biggest stories on Time Out Hong Kong.

With the ever changing social distancing restrictions, it’s no surprise that our social distancing guide was the most read story in 2021. Hongkongers kept abreast of what was going on and our easy-to-read guide served as the go-to article in understanding what we can and can’t do in the city.

When the Hong Kong government rolled out vaccinations, not all Hongkongers were keen to jump on the vaccination bandwagon. At least, not at first. This prompted authorities to work with local companies and businesses to help boost the vaccination rate by offering incentives and prizes. For months, right until the final lucky draws were complete, this regularly updated guide was one of the most-read features on Time Out.

The past two years have been challenging for everyone, let alone the city’s restaurant industry. But in 2021, many of Hong Kong’s restaurants and businesses, along with the chefs and staff, did everything they could to push through and came out triumphant. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to some established eateries in the city, but we did welcome some fantastic new venues too, and those that remained, continued to uphold the quality food, passion and energy that Hong Kong is known for. Our regularly updated list of the 50 best restaurants gave recognition to the city’s best eateries and helped our readers navigate the best venues for great meals in the city.
