On the chain

Sunglass chains have become one of the biggest accessory trends on the runway for the summer season. It started last year when people began sharing their pictures wearing sunnies with chains on Instagram, and celebrities like Gigi Hadid have been seen donning it with their streetwear. It's a fresh way to accessorize, and granny would approve as it keeps your specs around your neck and in style. From chunky metal chains, neon chords, and pearls, designers have come up with various designs to fit any personality. We specifically like the classy look of Chanel's Butterfly Sunglasses ($7,400) for women from their spring-summer 2020 collection. The chic sunglass is made with metal and resin, with 100 percent UVA and UVB protection lenses, and comes with glass pearl chain (white or grey). The design is available in six variants with options ranging from silver or gold metal frames to pink, red, green, or mirror lenses.

Slim sunnies

Micro mini frames and super slim in height has dominated the sunglasses trend since 2018 and have been worn by celebrities like Kristen Stewart and Kendall Jenner. For 2020, it looks like the shrunk sunglasses aren't going anywhere. Explore narrow styles and experiment with shapes and various materials from a vintage look with an acetate frame, to futuristic metals and plastics. For starters, check out A Society's Lola ($780) design from their latest Series II collection. The look gives off an air of mystery and makes you seem bold yet introverted. The lens come in various colours too, making it unisex so men who are daring enough to wear these can try them in red or purple.

Available at asociety.com or get it at their PMQ pop-up store, Unit H307, 35 Aberdeen St, Central.

Side shields

For a complete eye shield from the sun, especially after a long night out – because the morning after left you feeling like a vampire blinded by the sun – the side shield trend is your answer. We particularly love Chloe's Deva sunglasses ($4,900) dressed in removable, tan-coloured leather side shields on the temples. The style is an instant fashion statement, though it will leave you standing out from the crowd rather than being inconspicuous because, well, it looks so good.

Bold colours

Play with colour for summer and get the shiniest and brightest blinders to shield your eyes from the rays of the sun. If you haven't already heard, Rimowa, known for their iconic suitcases, recently launched their unisex eyewear line and the sunglasses range is great for daily wear and perfect for jet setting mavens. Check out their Pantos Crystal White-Yellow Mirrored Round Sunglasses ($2,410). The design is lightweight, so it is excellent for hot summer days. And the yellow reflective lenses add a fashion statement that will be spotted from a mile away!

Available in Rimowa's Landmark store and website.

Aviators

Aviator design is one of the most classic frames of eyewear in the market and have stood the test of time. It was cool for our grandfathers then, and it is still cool for us now. Initially designed in the 1930s for pilots to protect their eyes from the sun, today almost every person owns a pair and wearing one still exudes coolness. Nearly every brand of eyewear offers this iconic shape but for new releases this season we particularly love Cartier's Santos de Cartier ($7,040) spring-summer 2020 release. The specs feature bold contours and elegantly framed silhouette that carries the signature details of Cartier's iconic Santos watch. The frame features screws inspired by airplane rivets which adds a signature character to the shades.
