Hong Kong is well known for bespoke tailoring, but tailor-made suits often come with a hefty price tag. If you’re looking for refined but accessible haberdashery, Tsim Sha Tsui’s hidden tailoring gem, Refinery, is the best place to go for suits that won’t break the bank. Founded by a group of young professionals led by Stanton Ho and Curtis Ho, who saw a gap in the market for affordable yet high-quality tailoring in the city, Refinery was established in 2017 to cater to a young market.
Refinery offers customisable suits in various colours and patterns and provides a wide selection of materials from the UK and Italy, including limited stocks of vintage fabrics. A customised two-piece suit – generally completed in four to six weeks with two fittings in between – starts at $5,500 and may go up depending on the finish. One of the current best sellers from the atelier is their bespoke shirts – with customisable sleeve length, collar, cuff, and placket – that goes for $1,200 for three pieces. Women’s tailoring service is also available upon request. Aside from suits and shirts, customers can also browse a selection of vintage watches and shoes and drink a dram of whisky by the small waiting bar while waiting for their turn to get their measurements.
The shop follows the ongoing social distancing regulations, so make sure to book an appointment before visiting the shop.
