Another venue to join Hong Kong’s multi-concept craze is Yaichi Kura, a food and drink destination spanning a massive 5,113sq ft in Kennedy Town. The venue is split into four sections including a high-end izakaya called Toge by Jyungin; all-day dining venue Eclipse by Luna Café & Bar; Osaka bakery Painduce; and a physical venue for online Japanese specialty store Go81.com.
Hoping to recreate the izakaya ambience of Sapporo’s Jyungin, Toge by Jyungin is led by chef Shimoji Atsushi who has created a robatayaki, or fireside, tasting menu (from $980 per person for eight dishes). Think quality Japanese ingredients cooked in front of you including oysters, clams, kinmedai, maitake mushrooms and more, cooked in a parchment paper pouch and sauce made with Japanese white wine, dashi, butter, lemon, and garlic. There’s also sushi to be enjoyed. From the Toge Sushi Roll ($168) made up of tuna and salmon roe, Wagyu beef tataki in uni sauce ($298), and Hokkaido oysters sashimi ($188 for three pieces) among others.
Over at Eclipse by Luna Café & Bar, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner is served. From hearty pasta like Hokkaido uni carbonara ($168) and cod crab eggs benedict ($148) to double cheesecake ($68) best paired with the house special blend coffee. The bakery Painduce uses a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit in their bakes such as sauteed shiitake mushroom toast, roasted ham and cabbage toast, smoked chicken and pumpkin toast and more. Finally, 81Station, a one-stop-shop and self-pickup station, has Japanese produce and high-quality merch for those that want to take it all home.
