Being able to travel the world is one of the best parts of modern life, but let’s face it, airports can be pretty stressful places. Amidst the joys of the jetsetting lifestyle, airports are always packed with people in a rush, people worrying about making their flights, transiting passengers or first-timers wandering around looking lost, people who are jetlagged or just a bit sleep-deprived… the list goes on.

Luckily, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) boasts numerous coffee shops scattered around the main departure concourse and near various gates, so travellers can easily fuel up on caffeine before boarding or transiting to another city. Whether you’re looking for a strong cup of joe to power through emails, a caffeinated alternative for staying awake to watch inflight movies, or a hot chocolate to relax and fall asleep faster, there’s a coffee shop around every corner in HKIA that will suit your needs. Read on to see our top picks, as well as what we’d get there.

%Arabica

Hailing from Kyoto, this specialty coffee chain has a global presence in over 23 countries. Their branches always lean into the Japanese minimalist aesthetic, with plenty of bare white walls, light wood accents, and the cafe latte as their signature drink. If you find yourself at this coffee outlet, then you simply must order the maple latte, which is only available at Hong Kong airport. Pro tip: pair your drink with a pain au chocolat for an excellent pick-me-up.

%Arabica is located near Gate 10 at the departures level.

nodi

Meaning ‘knot’ in Latin, nodi aims to bring people together, and they’ve certainly managed to combine Hong Kong with international travellers at their airport branch. The eye-catching design of this pop-up was inspired by our city’s iconic newsstands – though of course, instead of newspapers and cigarettes, they peddle fantastic brews. We’d recommend going for an iced Americano or a flat white here, though their matcha latte is also a popular alternative for those who aren’t fans of coffee.

There’s also KaravanStop by nodi, a lifestyle cafe concept serving artisanal coffee and food, and focusing on introducing the beauty of hiking in Hong Kong to travellers.

nodi is located on the midfield concourse near Gate 214, while KaravanStop by nodi is near Gate 64, both on the departures level.

Bacha Coffee

This luxury coffee brand features 100 percent Arabic coffee beans, including single-origin, fine-blended, flavoured, and naturally decaffeinated coffees. Their Samba Nights coffee with a side of coffee nougat is always a safe bet, though we’d say Bacha is great for picking up presents as they also sell gift boxes and coffee accessories. You can get fancy loose beans ground on demand to your specifications, or single-serve coffee bags that are very travel-friendly.

Bacha Coffee is located near Gate 5 on the departures level.

THE MATCHA TOKYO

Originating in Tokyo’s Omotesando, THE MATCHA TOKYO landed in Hong Kong in 2021, with the airport branch being their 10th. Pick up one of their silky smooth 100-percent organic teas as a good alternative to coffee, or grab a bottled matcha latte to drink in-store or take on board flights. If you’re feeling peckish, then go for one of their signature croffles – in particular, the matcha cheesecake flavour – or their airport-exclusive hot dog snacks.

THE MATCHA TOKYO is located near Gate 11 on the departures level.

Godiva Café

Premium Belgian chocolate house Godiva is well-known for their truffles and shell-moulded chocolate pieces, but they’ve also brought gourmet coffee, hot cocoa, chocolate soft serve, and more treats to Hong Kong International Airport. If you feel like winding down with a comforting drink instead of loading up on caffeine, then Godiva Café is a no-brainer. We’d recommend their 70-percent dark chocolate drinks or milk chocolate shakes, which pair perfectly with their dark chocolate croiffles.

Godiva Café is located near the end of check-in aisle K, on the 7/F departures level, in the non-restricted area.
