With little choice but to stock up the pantry and sharpen our rusty cooking skills since the dinner ban, some of us are now turning to the pros and hiring private chefs to make us a slap-up meal that is as close to a real restaurant experience as possible. This trend to bring chefs home has the potential to continue even after restrictions are lifted. After all, the intimate setting steers you away from crowds and you get an entirely bespoke menu. Ahead, we’ve rounded up some of the best chefs in Hong Kong that will cook (and clean), so you can sit back, relax and entertain.

RECOMMENDED: Stuck inside and hungry? Order in from the best online grocery stores and delis, enjoy a great lunch or take it away today.

Hong Kong's best chefs at home experiences

Jia's Chefs at Home

As a part of Jia Group’s catering service, Chefs at Home brings some of the city’s most prominent culinary talents into your kitchen. Harnessing the same standards of restaurant dining, but changing up the scene to your home dining room, chef Antonio Oviedo of 22 Ships; husband and wife duo Chang and Narisawa of Chachawan; chef and co-founder Agustin Balbi of Andō, among others, will prepare an array of their specialities customised to your preferences, party size and occasion. The best part about this is that you will finally get to enjoy cuisines that aren’t easy to replicate at home, at home. From regional tapas delights to various dishes of Thailand and dishes inspired by Japanese-Argentinian flavours, Jia's Chefs at Home won’t disappoint.

At-home chefs know how hard it is to perfectly time and serve a meal of several courses, so now that Chinese restaurant Piin has started offering an at-home dining experience, you can have that multi-course meal served at exactly the right time and temperature. The six-course tasting menu is a treat from start to finish with contemporary Chinese highlights like the conpoy tomato with Hokkaido scallops and caviar, Matsuba crab cigar with crab roe and black garlic nori ash, and the restaurant’s signature tomato scrambled egg ice cream with salted egg yolk and tomato gelée. Piin is also known for its extensive wine collection so you can pair the meal with recommendations from the in-house sommelier.

Price: $1,080 per person

Alfred’s

Alfred’s is the one-stop shop and concierge service by Leading Nation, the team behind hit restaurants such as La Rambla by Catalunya, Wagyumafia and one of Hong Kong's top bars The Diplomat, that sends a chef and culinary team your way. A minimum of four people is required to enjoy these restaurant experiences at home.

This might not be the first time you invite chef Rafa Gil of La Rambla into your home, as he has probably made an appearance via your TV screen when he competed on Netflix’s Final Table. But now, you can invite the chef in the flesh to personally cook up a storm for you and your whole party. For meat-eaters that love their beef, you’ll be pleased to know that you can sink your teeth into the same high-quality cuts (especially their signature Chateaubriand) from Wagyumafia. Chef Yohei Yamamoto uses, you guessed it, Wagyu as a primary ingredient and finds inventive ways to execute the protein like taking inspiration from Cantonese dim sum to create spring rolls and beef ribs in black bean sauce.

Price: Starts at $2,500 per person for La Rambla; $3,200 per person for Wagyumafia

Each menu differs based on the tastes of the diners and ingredients that are in season but focuses on highlighting the natural flavours and aromas of the produce. With roots in Italy and South America, chef Gallo plays with fire and flame as part of his cooking style to create traditional dishes. If you don't have a grill, Fireside will bring their very own mini version to accommodate any household.
