Poon choi is the traditional cuisine from the former walled villages of the New Territories. The poon choi style – different foods layered in large bowls – was born out of necessity people as people had few dishes to use as they fled from China. Ping Shan Traditional Poon Choi keeps the tradition alive with its large sharing plates made with top-quality inch-thick Chinese mushrooms and all the usual trimmings of pork, chicken and bean curd lathered in a luscious nam yu sauce. The other dishes on offer, such as deep fried eel and chicken broth fried rice, are also equally as good, but they only cater to groups of at least eight, so gather some friends and indulge in their authentic dinner set.
