The shops in Tai On Building don’t necessarily have the most creative of names, but they certainly have accurate ones. Hung Kee’s egg waffles are indeed top quality, albeit slightly different in texture than your run-of-the-mill version of the local delicacy. Hot off the egg waffle maker, this golden-brown gem of snack is, as expected, crispy on the outside. But there’s isn’t that typical gap between the filling and crust. As a result, Hung Kee’s version is especially bouncy and tasty, even hours after its prime. The soft, cakey filling is a welcome departure from other versions we’ve tried, making the snack feel especially light and airy. There’s no wonder that this shop has been operating for 11 years and counting—the appeal of their egg waffles is truly timeless.
