It’s a little-known fact, especially among the incessant bustle of living in Hong Kong, but several MTR stations in our city actually have exhibition spaces that host interesting shows for those who can slow down their rush to the trains and take a breather. One such station is currently home to The Commeownity Feline Store Managers – Heartening Photography exhibition (yeah, it’s a mouthful), curated by local photographer Jonas Chan.
As the moderator of social media group Street CATography, Chan is no stranger to capturing the charm of felines that pop up in the streets of Hong Kong. Just two MTR stops away from this exhibition is the neighbourhood of Sai Ying Pun, known for its numerous dried seafood shops and the shop cats that come with it, so the show features these animals at work in their shops, cha chaan tengs, and grocery stores.
Nine of these feline store managers have also been illustrated and made into limited-edition tote bags, stickers, and cards, which will be on sale in the nine Sai Ying Pun shops that the cats belong to. If you bump into MTR’s mascot T Chai – dressed up as a cat, no less – he might also be giving these out as gifts. Try to catch him between 3pm to 5pm on March 9, 15, and 22. The Commeownity exhibition can be found near exit J of the Central MTR station until June 30.
