The World’s 50 Best Bars 2020 announced: Coa and The Old Man make the list

Announced on November 5 via a digital countdown, this year's 50 Best Bars ranking sees 15 listings from Asia, with Singapore's Atlas taking the highest ranking in the region at number four. Hong Kong's Mexican-inspired bar Coa, helmed by Time Out Hong Kong's 2019 Best Bartender Jay Khan, gets the award for shooting up high above the top 10 list, landing at number 8 from its previous 49th spot when it made its debut in 2019. And just less than a month after seeing the departure of co-founder Agung Prabowo, The Old Man Hong Kong drops to number 15 from last year's 9th ranking. 

After spending its first night into another lockdown, London takes the highest spot with Mayfair hotel's ritzy Connaught Bar, which also marks the bar as The Best Bar in Europe, dropping New York's Dante on number two from its previous top ranking in 2019. 

This year's list features bars from 23 countries, with 11 new entries spread across the UK, Colombia, Australia, China, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Spain, and Thailand. New entries in Asia see Bangkok's The Bamboo Bar at 35, Kuala Lumpur's Bar Trigona at 44, and Seoul's Charles H at 48.
