A date has finally been set for the opening of Hong Kong's Kai Tak Stadium! On February 4, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau stated in a social media post that the long-awaited venue will officially open its doors on March 1, marking a major milestone for the city’s sports and entertainment scene. This announcement comes after the successful trial run at the stadium, where spectators watched a Hong Kong Premier League match between Kitchee and North District.
With a seating capacity of around 50,000 spectators, a retractable roof – which takes about 30 minutes to open and close – and flexible setups, the stadium is designed to host a variety of large-scale events, ranging from international sports competitions to music concerts and cultural festivals. Upcoming major events taking place at the Kai Tak Stadium include Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour, Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, as well as two concerts by Taiwanese pop legend Jay Chou and Hong Kong's very own Nicholas Tse.
So mark your calendars for March 1 and pay a visit to this architectural marvel yourself. Remember to also check out our extensive guide to other fun activities you can get up to around the Kai Tak Sports Park area.
