The government has announced new measures effective from today, July 20, that affect Hong Kong’s postal service, including the temporary closure of post offices, the reduction of mail delivery to twice a week, and mail collection from post boxes reduced to every other day. These measures will continue until July 26, pending any further developments in the city, and they come after the recent extension of restrictions on restaurants.

Other facilities like banks which include HSBC, Standard Chartered, Bank of China, and Chiyu are shortening their operating hours. At the same time, the Inland Revenue Department has also announced changes to its services, with all services halted except for its Central Enquiry Counter, Central Telephone Enquiry service, Business Registration Office, and Stamp Office. These measures have no tentative end date, with the government stating simply that they’ll review the situation and make further announcements as necessary. By Shanti Parmanand and Sam Evans
