On May 30, the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) raised the T1 typhoon signal at 5.40pm, marking this year's first tropical cyclone warning to be issued.

With the intense rainband of Typhoon Maliksi affecting the territory, the HKO has announced that the T3 storm signal will remain in force at least until noon on June 1. According to the present forecast track, Maliksi will continue to bring strong winds from the south and heavy squally showers to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary before noon.

The HKO will bring the storm signal back down to T1 when Maliksi weakens over inland areas with changes in local wind conditions.
