It’s been almost eight years since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came out but Potter mania is still very much alive and kicking – or should we say, flying? As if the opening of Cafe 9 ¾ wasn’t evidence enough, a team of HKU students are preparing to face off against Seoul National University this Sunday in an international exhibition match of quidditch.

Yes, you read that right. Despite the lack of flying brooms and semi-sentinel balls, or y’know, magic, the event is taking place from 3pm to 5pm at the Stanley Ho Sports Centre in Pok Fu Lam. Not letting practical limitations get in the way of fun, the sport consists of two teams of seven players who run around a pitch, with broomsticks tucked between their legs, aiming to throw a ball through the three hoops at either end.

Entry is free, so support our very own HKU team as they battle against the Seoul Puffskeins, or simply drop by to see people running around with sticks between their legs. It’s going to be magical.

Click the video below for a preview of the heart-pounding quidditch action you can expect this Sunday.
