Shawn Mendes

The 18-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter has somewhat transcended his Valentine's lovely boy persona, while also side-stepping the pseudo self-empowerment tactics used liberally by pop contemporaries such as Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift. Don't get us wrong, the saccahrine is strong with this one, but there's real songwriting nous in Mendes work. Not that you'll be able to hear any of that over the screaming when he plays live.
