On the fourth day of the festval, Musicus puts on one for the kids. Artistic director and cellist Trey Lee present Darius Milhaud’s short suite La cheminée du roi René (or, The Fireplace of King René). The main piece on the programme is Francis Poulenc’s indubitably colorful L’Histoire de Babar, le petit éléphant, a narration and musical accompaniment to the story of beloved children’s character Babar, an elephant that becomes integrated into society. The latter piece was originally written as a set of improvisations when Poulenc’s niece asked him to play what was in her copy of L’Histoire de Babar, so you can bet your bottom dollar that this concert was, and is, made special for your child. Cantonese Narration at 2:30pm, English Narration at 4:30pm
