Best things to do with your kids in Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s newest indoor activity centre, Superpark has an array of fun family activities for all pre-schoolers and teenagers. Little ones will have a blast in the Adventure Zone with its mini racetracks, giant slides and air ropes, while teens can play football, basketball, baseball, golf and other driving ranges in the ‘game arena’. The ‘freestyle hall’, meanwhile, has more challenging activities such as skateboarding, bullet beds and rock climbing.

Combine Star Wars and Mission Impossible and you have Lasermads – a spaceship-themed laser tag station in Causeway Bay. Battle it out with your kids at this cracking science-fiction gaming experience. As you wander around the maze holding the laser gun in your glow-in-the-dark vest, you’ll feel like you’re infiltrating a Star Destroyer (or another spaceship of equal coolness).

Head over to Hong Kong’s premier neon-lit playground, Crossfire Arena, where you can have epic battles with your children. Young padawans and Jedi masters alike can pick up a lightsaber and learn the ways of the force or challenge each other to a duel. Alternatively, run, kick and smash your way through to the goal in neon bubble suits in a game of Bubble Football. There are also archery war games for all young Katnisses and Hawkeyes.

Tucked away inside Sha Tin’s New Town Plaza, you’ll find Snoopy’s World – a small theme park perfect for toddlers. Oversized figurines of Peanuts characters fill the children’s play areas. The place features several amusement zones such as the Snoopy House, Peanuts Academy, Peanuts Boulevard and an adorable canoe boat ride with Snoopy and his friends.

Experience the thrill of race car driving with your kids without any of the danger. Sideways Driving Club is Hong Kong’s premier virtual racing centre. Using state-of-the-art race-car equipment, they provide an experience that puts playing any home console to shame. Sideways’ adjustable driving stimulators (150cm to 205cm) also mean parents can join their kids in the races.

Book a workshop at the beautiful pottery and homeware store Loveramics, which overlooks peaceful Repulse Bay. Draw, paint and glaze on your favourite ceramic shapes and have them fired on site. End your session with a cup of coffee and organic tea at the shop and go homeware shopping with your tots.

Take your little ones one of the world’s oldest botanical gardens in the heart of Central. The gardens are filled with more than 1,000 species of plants, about 200 birds, 70 mammals and 30 reptiles, as well as Bornean orangutan, buff-cheeked gibbon, sloths, lemurs and even flamingos. Guided tours in Cantonese take place from 10.30am to 12.30pm every Sunday. Best part? Everything is free of charge, so you can keep your wallet safely in your pocket.

This 9,000 sq ft restaurant is a dream for families with young children. Fitting up to 120 people, Kidskiss – it’s an unfortunate name – is home to more than 10 interactive game zones including a large ball pit and a hand-knitted textile indoor playground.
