The Chinese National Opera and Dance Drama Theater will present a dance drama titled Li Bai in the new year. Tang dynasty poet Li Bai is one of China’s greatest literary icons, with pretty much everyone who has been to Chinese school learning at least one of his poems from a young age.
This eponymous dance performance covers the most pivotal moments in the poet’s life, exploring his struggles between worldly commitments and spiritual transcendence. Li’s poetry is often romantic, so the dance has been choreographed to be ethereal, with a great dose of aesthetic beauty found in Chinese culture. Since Li was also a swordsman, there will also be an element of swordplay combined with classical Chinese dance.
Tickets for the Hong Kong season of Dance Drama Li Bai are now on sale, ranging from $188 to $880, with concessions available. Until January 3, 2025, readers can also use the promo code LIBAI2025 to enjoy a 20-percent New Year discount.
