Hong Kong Ghost Signs: Summoning Characters from our City’s Past

It may not be very obvious, but Hong Kong is marked all over by unique signage signifying defunct advertisements or long-gone brands and businesses. Whether it is slowly disappearing neon signs or the often-overlooked ‘ghost signs’, they lie in plain sight, revealing traces of an old way of life in this city. Photographer Ben Marans is exhibiting his series on past businesses and cultures in Hong Kong, offering them almost as urban archaeological finds.
