Black Sheep Restaurants is set to open its 15th venue this August.
New Punjab Club is a tandoor grill house that will transport diners back to post-colonial Pakistan and India. Black Sheep co-founder Syed Asim Hussain - a Punjabi himself - is collaborating with chef Palash Mitra formally of one Michelin-starred Gymkhana in London. Both are passionate about Punjabi cuisine, which centres around the tandoor oven.
Asim whiled away many childhood hours in Lahore's The Punjab Club, a private social and athletics club and his father's Wyndham Street restaurant, The Mughal Room. As such, the New Punjab Club is a nod to these fond memories. Asim has restored The Mughal Club's original tandoor ovens for New Punjab Club. How's that for an homage?
Asim believes Punjabi dishes are worth celebrating and we couldn't agree more. He strives to introduce diners to a world outside of typical curries, dishing up hearty and rustic dishes by the renowned chef Mitra. We look forward to clapping our eyes on the menu and sinking our teeth into some tandoori goodies.
