Time Out says

Running out of luck this year? The banyan trees in Lam Tsuen in Fong Ma Po Village might just do the trick for you. Traditionally, villagers would write their wishes on joss paper, tie it to an orange and throw them into the trees. Legend has it that the higher the wish lands, the better the chances are for your wishes to come true. Remember to pick up a lottery ticket on your way home.

What’s on

Lam Tsuen Well-Wishing Festival

The Lam Tsuen Well-Wishing Festival is an age-old tradition of Chinese New Year in Hong Kong. Crowds would flock to this legendary wishing tree in Tai Po, where wishes are written on a placard and tied to a mandarin, which is considered an auspicious fruit. It is believed that by throwing it high up onto the tree without it falling back down will make your wishes come true. Aside from this custom, there will also be food stalls, carnival games, music shows, a float exhibition, and more.
