Tang Contemporary welcomes Heri Dono, one of the most celebrated artists from Indonesia to present his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. For almost forty years, he has been examining power structures through satirical juxtapositions, emphasizing serious reflections on social and political issues through his construction of layers.
His new series of paintings are relevant to current times, with political caricatures, machines, and mythological beasts that illustrate power structures at odds. For instance, paintings “Trump vs the Dragon” and “Between Two Cards” examine moral consequences of choosing one thing over another. His kinetic-sound installation “Born and Freedom,” which is about the relationship between the Indonesian population and the government can be also viewed at the exhibition.
