Sun Museum is concurrently holding two exhibitions by Hong Kong artists, both working under the theme of ‘Colour’. Ceramics artist Wong May Lee has been working in this medium since the 70s, exploring pottery making techniques from raku firing to working with zisha purple clay, and is also one of Hong Kong’s first artists to explore wood firing. Look out for her beautiful celadon glaze series, especially the rare meizi qing plum green glaze, for which Wong learnt the techniques at the renowned Longquan kiln itself.
On the other hand, veteran artist Lam Yi Kei’s works are oil paintings focused on landscapes and figures which capture his personal experiences. Though his style leans more towards western impressionist and classical, Lam’s pieces in this exhibition are Hong Kong-focused, presenting the city in dream-like urbanscapes. This exhibition pairing, with 85 ceramic pieces and 30 oil paintings to savour, is running from now until October 7.
