Time Out says

Explore the future of textiles as CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile) celebrates its fifth anniversary with a seasonal programme featuring the ‘ANTEPRIMA x CHAT Contemporary Textile Art Prize’ showcase, along with a fascinating exhibition from their 2024 artist-in-residence. The programme dives into fresh perspectives on textile art from a global viewpoint, while also reflecting on our history through community collaboration.

The ‘ANTEPRIMA x CHAT Contemporary Textile Art Prize’ is all about supporting Asian artists with a global vision, and the winner has now been revealed! Congratulations to Yee I-Lann, Roziah Binti Jalalid, and Julitah Kulinting for winning the inaugural ANTEPRIMA x CHAT Contemporary Textile Art Prize Award. The international jury was impressed with the deep and joyous social engagement, outstanding textile technique, artistic innovation, and complexity displayed in their work.

After a rigorous selection process spanning 18 months, the exhibition will present the exceptional works of all finalists. There will also be an exhibition running from now to February 23, 2025, where visitors can explore the finalists’ works and vote for their favourite piece for the Audience Prize, with the winner announced on March 3, 2025.

Don’t miss the concurrent exhibition by CHAT’s 2024 artist-in-residence, BOLOHO: Visitants to Lunar Factory, highlighting the summary of the ‘Seed to Textile’ six-month community project where the Guangzhou-based artist collective worked with over 2,800 local community members to create a variety of artworks. Inspired by overseas Chinese farms and the diverse plants that thrive there, this exhibition invites you into an interactive experience filled with history and shared stories.

Be sure to also check out ‘Artefacts of Belonging’, a thematic display featuring archival materials, oral histories, and photographs that shine a light on the lives of former textile workers in Hong Kong. It’s a heartfelt look at the rich history of the textile industry and the connections formed within it, encouraging all of us to reflect on our own relationships.
