Situated inside Mono café-bar, within an old open-fronted railway arch beside cult record store Monorail, combined art gallery, publishers and book and art shop Good Press has become an important and valued part of a self-contained independent music and arts community in the Merchant City.
Run by a Glasgow-based group called Museums Press, Good Press presents a raft of exotic, colourful, and playful lo-fi printed matter with a punk spirit. Stock includes everything from visual art to contemporary illustration, independently published zines and books, and all else in between.
There’s lots of stuff from Museums Press’s own catalogue – be it beautifully hand-printed, limited-edition publications tying in with Good Press’s various exhibitions, or gifts designed by local designers – as well as loads of attractive and intriguing items by other Glasgow publishers and creatives.
Good Press also source new and interesting works from further afield, giving you access to a whole network of underground esoterica from around the globe – everything from gig posters and prints by Berlin artists Gfeller and Hellsgård to cassettes of recordings by obscure bands by Californian label Goaty Tapes. Prices are usually surprisingly affordable, making all kinds of fun and original artworks available to buyers of every budget.
