Where some vintage clothes shops pack the stock in to every available nook and cranny, Circa Vintage strives to be more discerning. There’s a focus on good condition and everything is sourced locally, meaning you get a snapshot of specifically Scottish style, from Edwardian times through to the 1980s.
There’s a limited range of men’s stuff in one corner – shirts, jackets, shoes, jumpers – but Circa Vintage specialises in women’s wear. Dresses are a particular speciality – all from conservatively cool crepe peplum 1940s numbers to 1960s minis, 1970s maxis and 1980s bubble skirts. Handbags, shoes, coats, jackets and capes aren’t in short supply either, while jewellery can include cool little pieces like Art Deco earrings and brooches.
Prices are affordable, from as little as a fiver up to around £100 for a particularly nice coat. Better still, you may get to pat the owner’s ridiculously cute dog – often found curled up on the counter – as you pay.
