Clearly it's important to distinguish a restaurant on Glasgow's extensive Southside from a celeb hangout in central London where the Oscietra caviar costs £100 for 30g. While the London gaff is simply the Ivy, this venue at the edge of the Glasgow suburbs opted for the name Giffnock Ivy just to be on the safe side. The premises have housed an eatery for many years although the current management have been in situ since 2008, running a neat and tidy Modern European restaurant that represents something of an oasis of kitchen expertise among the surrounding neighbourhoods. Three courses at dinner might bring pickled fillet of sea bream, smoked salmon and prawn mousse to start with hot mustard mayonnaise; roast rump of lamb with smoked pancetta and broth as a main; lemon posset for dessert. The lunch and pre-theatre menus, when available, remain decent value. Giffnock is 15 minutes by train from Glasgow Central.
