Music loving aficionados of Glasgow rejoice! Record Store Day 2016 (which takes place on Saturday April 16) isn't far away and there’s a whole heap of live music action, DJ sets and limited edition vinyl to get your mitts on around the city.

Record Store Day launched in America in 2007 and its aim is to celebrate the multitudes of independent record stores around the world. The way it works is simple: for one day only, independent record shops stock a selection of limited-edition releases on CD and vinyl.

Musicians across the globe join in by releasing special editions of their work, playing impromptu sessions in-store and by generally celebrating the wonders of our independent record shops. This year there will be enough sweet treats and tea to go around too, so get involved and enjoy the family-friendly vibes these Glasgow record stores have planned for April 18.

Love Music, 34 Dundas Street, Glasgow

With more than 500 Record Store Day releases in stock on the day, Love Music is set to have queues snaking out of the door from early in the wee hours. But don’t worry, there will be plenty to keep you entertained as you wait in line. With a whole range of music acts set to appear on the day plus the obligatory free tea and cakes (don’t mind if we do!), Love Music is the place to be. The full line-up is: FiniTribe, Randolph's Leap, C Duncan, James King & the Lone Wolves, Colonel Mustard & the Dijon 5Frankie Iero (ex My Chemical Romance guitarist/vocalist), Mickey 9s, Apache SunGerry Cinnamon and Finn LeMarinel.

Monorail Music, 12 King Street, Glasgow

Alternatively, the Merchant City end of Glasgow is cutting some fine shapes for RSD 2015 too. Monorail Music will be celebrating by inviting a plethora of acts into their shop, with live sets coming from Rose McDowall, James YorkstonPennycress and Halfrican. If that's not enough there will also be DJ sets from: Afrodeesia (Super Africaine), JD Twitch (Optimo) and Roxanne Clifford (Veronica Falls). The sweet toothed among you can also have some cake.

Hidden in the West End of the city, independent music collective NHC Music continue their support for independent artists with their RSD 2015 line-up. As well as playing music from independent artists all day in store, the shop will have live sets from DeeTees, Colonel Mustard & the Dijon 5 (yes, again), Armstrong, David Hughes and Stuart Ross. There's a BYOB system in place at the shop but if drinking isn't your bag there's sure to be some free soft-drinks and nibbles on the go too.

As well as stocking vinyl, books and CDs, NHC Music is also the proud stockist of over 120 of the best unsigned and independent music acts across Scotland. If that's not what the Record Store Day mantra is all about we don't know what is.

The Record Factory, 17 Byres Road

The Record Factory

Finally, and keeping things in the West End, The Record Factory have a full afternoon (1-6pm) of RSD events planned including a record fair, live music and DJ sets. If the weather’s nice you can also chill with a pint in the biggest beer garden in the West End or just indulge in some of their highly recommended pub grub which will be available from noon til 8.45pm. Music on the day comes from The Ravels, Fly JacksonSomething, Someone and Sophie Rogers. They also have a very special performance from delta blues band My Baby, currently on tour with Seasick Steve (who plays the Barrowlands later that night). If none of that piques your fancy there's also DJ sets from Otis Galloway and XFM DJ, Fraser Thomson.
