Welcome to Glasgow - your home for the next few years and your brand new workspace/playground. If you're new to the city, or are a new student in town, here are five things you need to know. Consider this your official welcome wagon.
1. Sauchiehall Street might not seem like much during the day, but at night it's pretty much Glasgow's version of Las Vegas
A hub of pubs, clubs, neon lights, missing stilettos and boxes of chips, it's likely that you'll have some of the best nights you'll ever remember (or at least try to remember!) on Sauchiehall Street.
2. The live music scene in Glasgow is world-famous
You can't turn a corner in Glasgow without bumping into someone in a band, and the city is jam-packed with amazing venues that have gigs on most nights of the week. For a couple of quid (or even free) you might just find yourself watching the Next Big Thing in Nice N' Sleazy on a wet Tuesday night.
3. If you're looking for craft beer, you've come to the right place
That's right, friends. In Glasgow the love for a good micro brew is strong, and you're pretty much spoiled for choice when it comes to where to go and find some. A few good places to start would include WEST at Glasgow Green, Finneston's The 78 and at Kelvinbridge you'll find Inn Deep and The Squid & Whale within walking distance. Cheers!
4. The Noodle Bar is a Glasgow institution
Oh, you didn't think you were leaving Sauchiehall Street before a trip to The Noodle Bar, did you? Hangovers, breakups, the best night ever, the worst night ever and everything in between - The Noodle Bar has seen it all. Is it a fine dining experience? No, but it won't judge you at 3am when you're in your pyjama bottoms looking for noodles. And sometimes that's all you need in life, right?
5. Glasgow runs on caffeine - so you'll never be stuck for a cuppa
When you've been up half the night eating noodles and losing your new shoes/dignity up on Sauchiehall Street (ahem!), you're going to need a miracle to kick-start the next day. Luckily, Glasgow has become something of a coffee lover's paradise, so you can grab a cup of something strong by indie roast favourites Dear Green to see you through until lunchtime.
